Thanks for the shoutout, Kyle! Was a blast helping evangelize PLG in the early days and helping create some momentum around it. This is just the beginning! Excited to see what the future holds in this space.
As always, love this content. Really fun to read the history here, was not aware how this came about. I always make it a point to sit and read through each of your posts.
One of the interesting threads in PLG recently has been the idea of PQLs or Product Qualified Leads. A PQL replaces or complements MQLs (Market Qualified Leads) in the revenue generation mechanism. The need to generate PQLs impacts how you design the free version of your offer. We wrote about this recently on the Ibbaka Market Blog.
Among the experts yes, but speak to people who are designing 'free packages' and see how (if) they are executing on this. Or even better, just go look at the free packages offered by most PLG companies and you can see that they do a poor job of capturing the data needed for a PQL. If your free offer is built around usage and engagement and not around value paths it will not generate meaningful PQLs.

Absolutely - we're very much still in the early days! The next 8 years will be a very fun ride.

Thanks, Caleb!

is it really that new though? Thought this was around for a while.

Agree. Not a new concept, but it's amazing how many folks haven't operationalized PQLs yet even if they have a free offering.
Got it thx!
